Get to know Rebecca: The wonderful wizard of ops.
FLP’s new Operations Director, Rebecca Tuck, says hello.
Hello everyone!
For those who haven’t yet met me, I’m Rebecca.
I joined FLP as Operations Director in September last year, and became an official shareholder (with a whopping 0.7% of the company) on 7th January 2025. A day so special to me, that it deserved a commemorative plaque (no, really).
Me and the second best thing in my flat, after Bob the cat.
A little bit about me: I’ve been in financial services since my early 20s, cutting my teeth in paraplanning, before finding my passion in the operational side of financial planning. I love looking under the bonnet and putting my problem-solving hat on. Efficiency is my thing, so I’m always looking at how to get better outcomes for clients in a more streamlined way.
Joining FLP is the culmination of many years of work, and a healthy dose of fate. When I first met Kate, it was immediately clear how aligned we were, with an authenticity and shared love of what we do that can be rare to find. For both of us, it was a case of “right person, right time”, leading to us ultimately taking the leap to join forces.
I’m very happy to report that it was absolutely a risk worth taking and, as of right now, we’re working together even better than I’d hoped. As a team, I’m taking care of FLP behind the scenes, freeing up Kate to be able to spend more time with all of you.
Never one to sit still, I thought I’d share a few things I’d like to get done in 2025:
Enhancing the client experience. As well as my focus on behind-the-scenes wizardry, I’m always keen to make sure that the tangible things you receive from us strike the same tone as the conversations we have, rather than just covering off the regulatory necessities. Expect to see refreshed documents winging their way to you shortly – designed to be more engaging, and 100% focused on you.
Wearing the compliance hat. I’m working with Kate on all of our compliance areas (company policies, registers and the like), with the intention to formally take on the compliance Senior Management function from next year. We are both equally excited about this change!
Expanding our networks. As a small team, it’s helpful for us to know as many good people as possible, so we’re focusing on getting out there and spreading the word with those in financial planning and our wider circles about who we are and what we’re up to.
And a few things on a personal note:
Travel more. Last year was woefully lacking in the travel department, and I’m planning to correct that for 2025. I’m always keen to go somewhere new, interesting and a little off the beaten track. Any recommendations welcome!
Learn to ski. Not content with simply hiking the alps in the summer, Kate has convinced me that I would like to learn how to ski down them in winter. I’ve had my level one lesson, booked in for my level two, and have a one-to-one lesson scheduled on the actual slopes in March. If I still can’t do it, at least I tried!
Move house. Because what is a year without a big upheaval? I’m currently in a lovely little flat in Cardiff, which has served me well, but by the end of the year I would love to have a garden. And my own front door. It’s the little things…
Finally, although my role is definitely more behind-the-scenes on paper, it’s very much a team effort here. I’ll be sitting right beside Kate as a key point of contact (you can get hold of me at rebecca@flpsolutions.com), and I’m really looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible.
